Though it is difficult to talk about such problems, yet its best to communicate with your child openly and tell him about the present scenario. • Dealing with overload: After divorce, you are required to deal with your child single handedly. You are bound to be overloaded as parenting is a responsibility that is supposed to be shared by two people. Hence, you end up lagging behind. But don’t go on berating yourself about it and neither let your child make you feel guilty. At the same time, be careful not to promise what you cannot deliver. Moreover, single fathers tend to ignore the emotional requirements of the child. So, make extra efforts to know what your child is going through. Single mothers make the mistake of getting too soapy all the time and smothering their kids with enough attention that could eventually spoil them.
• Handling financial pressures: Make sure that you are upfront about receiving child alimony from your ex. Consult an attorney as soon as possible if you have not done so. A growing child has growing needs which your salary alone may not be able to fulfil. Plan on monthly expenses, check your bank statements regularly and keep tabs on new schemes and investment to keep you afloat. Keep in mind that delaying such issues can hamper your child’s future considerably.
